About The Role

We are seeking an analytical and commercially minded Management Accountant to join our finance team. The role plays a key part in delivering high-quality management and financial information, maintaining robust financial control, and providing insight that supports operational decision-making and drives business performance.

The successful candidate will take ownership of key profit and loss and balance sheet areas and support continuous improvement across finance processes and reporting.

This role reports into the Head of Financial Accounting.

This role is well suited to a qualified accountant looking to develop broad commercial exposure within a PE-backed business.

This role is based 3 days in the office in Wolverhampton, 2 days from home. The office cannot be accessed via public transport.

About You

Management Accounting, Balance Sheet Control & Analysis

Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including detailed P&L and balance sheet analysis with clear commentary on key movements, risks, and trends.

Own the preparation, review, and posting of accounting entries for assigned areas of responsibility, including accruals, prepayments, and other month‑end journals.

  • Take ownership of CapEx accounting, including capitalisation, depreciation, disposals, and maintaining the fixed asset register.
  • Manage payroll accounting, ensuring accurate posting, reconciliation, and understanding of payroll-related balances.
  • Own accounting for operational expenses, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and appropriate classification across the P&L.
  • Prepare and review accruals and prepayments, ensuring all costs are recognised in the correct accounting period on a timely basis and supported by robust documentation.

Take responsibility for the complete, accurate, and timely reporting of holding companies, including debt accounting and associated balance sheet management.

 

Actively manage assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring reconciliations are complete, risks are understood, and balances are fully supported.

Be actively involved in the monthly internal management accounts consolidation process, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment across entities.

Support and contribute to the preparation of statutory accounts and tax computations, including providing supporting schedules and audit-ready documentation.

Ensure ongoing compliance with UK GAAP, including FRS102, and support changes required as a result of updated accounting standards and evolving business requirements.


Systems, Processes & Controls

Maintain strong financial controls across areas of responsibility, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness.

Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed to a high standard, with clear audit trails, supporting schedules, and timely issue resolution.

Support continuous improvement of finance processes, reporting, and controls as the business scales.

Leverage ERP, BI, and reporting tools to improve efficiency, automate reporting, and enhance data quality and financial insight.


Key Stakeholder Relationships

Partner closely with FP&A, transactional finance teams, and budget holders to deliver complete, accurate, and actionable financial information.

Build strong working relationships with budget-holders and operational teams, providing finance ownership, insight, and challenge across expenditure.

Act as a trusted finance contact for assigned areas, supporting both operational decision-making and effective balance sheet management.
 

Skills & Experience

Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).

Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP, with experience in management accounts and statutory reporting.

Demonstrable experience preparing and reviewing accounting journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP and BI/reporting tools is advantageous.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities.

Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and financial control.

Proactive, resourceful, and solution-focused, with the ability to challenge constructively.

Commercially minded with a continuous improvement mindset.
